A first teaser trailer was presented during the 2007 AVN Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. In January 2007, it was reported that a sequel would be produced, directed by Joone and entitled Pirates II. The film was also released on Blu-ray Disc (containing only the X-rated version) and HD DVD as one of the first high-definition adult releases on an optical disc format.Įvan Stone reported on the extra DVD that there was going to be a sequel. Digital Playground also released an Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD, a rarity among adult video releases. An edited R-rated version of the film was released on DVD on July 11, 2006.

The film was initially released as a three-disc DVD set (the movie on a standard video DVD, the movie again in a high definition (720P) Windows Media format, and a special features disc priced as high as $70. The owners of the ship were not aware of the true nature of the film as they were advised that the film being made was a " Disney-type pirate film for families", a mistaken notion that would continue in video stores after its release. Several scenes were shot on board the Bounty II, a replica of HMS Bounty, in St. It also included an original music score, later released on a separate soundtrack CD, and was mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.
The production was shot using high definition digital video cameras and featured over 300 special effects shots. Tommy Gunn as Captain Eric Victor Stagnetti.Stagnetti finds the secret "staff" unlocked by Isabella's husband Manuel.Īfter the crew escapes the spawn of darkness summoned by Stagnetti, their ship engages Stagnetti's in battle, ending Stagnetti's reign as a pirate. Reynolds and his crew go hunting for Stagnetti, who tries to find a map that leads to a powerful secret on an island somewhere in the Caribbean Sea. When they save a young woman named Isabella from drowning, she tells them that her husband's ship has been destroyed by the feared Captain Victor Stagnetti and his crew of cutthroat pirates. Only his first officer Jules believes in him. He does not consider himself a great commander, and neither does most of his crew. One can only hope.In 1763, Captain Edward Reynolds is hunting pirates, or at least trying to do so. Maybe at some point in the future, someone will be able to make an explicit film with the erotic impact of the sex scenes in "Body Heat" or "A History of Violence". Most of my other complaints have been covered by other posters: tattoos on "shy virgins", implants, waxing and in general all the woman looking like the "Aryan Nation" calender. Sorry, but these are PIRATES! Vicious, bloodthirsty pirates! Instead, they tip-toe around and spend most of the film focusing on the pirate-hunter. So they don't have any non-consensual sex. One other difference is that they are all scared of spending this amount of money and running the risk of being sued by the government. Back then, the ranks of porn were filled with aspiring actresses, while these days it's filled with women who do porn in order to make money feature dancing in clubs. I can imagine this film cast with 1970s-era actresses in their prime - Vanessa Del Rio, Veronica Hart, Lisa De Leeuw, Kelly Nichols. I know how old this makes me sound, but I remember the "Golden Age" of X-rated films, and how, at the very minimum, the lead actresses knew their lines. But the majority didn't even bother to learn their lines! You can see their eyes shifting back and forth reading the TelePrompTer! I can appreciate the position the producers were in - that they needed "names" to sell the product, but most of the names weren't trying. A number of the male actors and one of the female ones were trying, and were at least as good as actors in the average "Troma" film. Man do I wish this had been a better film than it was.
